Dedication at Mt. Meru Regional Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania

Tanzanian Minister of Health David Mwakyusa (left) and Abbott Chairman and CEO Miles D. White (right) dedicated a modernized laboratory at Mt. Meru Regional Hospital in Arusha, Tanzania on June 27, 2007. Mr. White also announced a new initiative to modernize all of Tanzania's regional hospital labs as part of Abbott and Abbott Fund’s $50+ million partnership with the Government of Tanzania to improve healthcare and fight HIV/AIDS. On June 13th 2007, Abbott and Abbott Fund were presented with the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC) "2007 Award for Business Excellence on HIV/AIDS through National Action" in recognition of their seven-year, $50+ million public-private partnership with the Government of Tanzania to strengthen the country's health care system and train health workers to meet the needs of people living with HIV and other chronic diseases.
